Project Walk Scholarship Fund Trial Week

Project Walk® is the most experienced exercise-based spinal cord injury recovery center in the world. We have learned what it takes to succeed. During your trial week, our job is to educate you on our theory, the latest scientific research, our program’s physical and mental demands, and how someone with SCI can recover. At the end of your visit, you will have an understanding of all aspects of recovery and what it takes to be successful.

Day 1 Orientation
You begin your day with a thirty minute orientation meeting with one of our directors and your supervising specialist. At this time we will go over your health history and paperwork and answer any questions you may have about our program, etc. Getting to know each other is an important facet of your visit. This meeting gives us insight on your abilities and gives you a better understanding of what you will be doing during your stay.

The Daily Workout
A functional evaluation of your abilities will be performed during the first hour of your first workout. During your remaining workouts, we will provide your nervous system with all different types of stimulation to assess what your body can and cannot do. We will ask you to perform movements and exercises that you haven’t done since your injury. You will be pushed hard physically and mentally. You will see for yourself what you have going on with your nervous system.

Throughout the course of the week, we will be evaluating your abilities and you should be evaluating us. One of the most important aspects of visiting Project Walk® is the opportunity to talk with your peers and watch them workout. They are the real experts on this injury. Your peers understand what you are going through and are able to give you insight as to how hard this program is as well as the improvements that they have achieved. During your five days with us, we hope
that you will gather enough information about SCI recovery using The Dardzinski
Method™, practiced only at Project Walk®, to help you on your journey to recovery.

Day 5: Exit Interview
During the last thirty minutes of your final workout, you will once again meet with your supervising specialist and go over your week. The exit interview gives you the opportunity to pose any questions and/or comments regarding your experience with us. It is also the time for you and your supervising specialist to discuss your future plans.
