Car Accident Injuries

Most car crashes are unnecessary, the result of violation of established safety rules of the road.  While these are almost always not intentional, they are also not truly “accidents,” because they were preventable.   As the Oregon Driver Manual puts it, “the word ‘accident’ is misleading.  If you crash because you were distracted, tired, or not driving defensively, it is a preventable crash, not an accident.” Severe losses from collisions can change lives forever.  We’ve helped hundreds of individuals and families who have been seriously or permanently injured in car collisions.

A settlement or verdict in favor of an injured person takes into consideration multiple harms and losses, such as:

  • Lost wages
  • Medical bills
  • Pain
  • Future care needs
  • Disability and limitations

If the case goes to trial, a jury may sometimes also award punitive damages, meant to punish the responsible party for endangering the lives of others. On average, injury survivors who have an attorney nearly triple the amount of money they get from insurance than those who do not, according to the Insurance Research Council.

Life is unexpected. Hopefully you never find yourself in a situation that requires legal assistance. Chances are though, if you’re reading this, then you, or someone you know might be seeking legal counsel. If you’ve been searching, stop here and call The Corson and Johnson Law Firm. I consider calling them after my auto accident one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. There’s a lot going on after an accident aside from dealing with the injury itself.

Don and the team were there every step of the way. They not only provided clarity on the process but also acted with empathy and understanding creating a system of support. Don and Beatrice explored all angles of my situation for the best possible outcome. They did an unbelievable job with communication and keeping me updated. Throughout, I always felt secure the case was being handled. This allowed me the necessary time to focus on my recovery. I have no doubt that these guys are the best at what they do. I consider Don, Beatrice, Stacy and Wendy to be like family and cannot express how strongly I recommend them.

Two Grateful and Admiring Clients

Don Corson took care of everything after we had a head-on collision with a 3/4 ton pickup. Everyone driving near the junction of the McKenzie Hwy and Santiam Hwy in the Cascade mountains saw our crumpled sedan and were amazed that anyone was left alive.

In July 2009 I was one year into retirement but suddenly found myself in Bend, Oregon hospital for 5 days. My husband would be in and out of the ICU for the next two months before he was transported by ambulance to a Eugene care center for weeks of convalescence; it would be the most bleak Thanksgiving we ever experienced.

During that tragic half year of our lives Don and his team took care of everything: I never looked at a medical bill; I was never put on hold to listen to music; I didn’t have to beg with my insurance agent for a loaner car big enough to feel safe driving again; I didn’t talk to salvage dealers or insurance adjusters; and I did not have to negotiate the two individual settlements that held the other driver accountable for his negligence, he walked away from the accident unhurt.

When it comes to knowing the law and how to most effectively apply it for his client’s benefit, we think he nears genius.

During those tragic months of 2009 and the years that have followed, I have come to understand what an incredible human being Don is. He IS a great guy. His sensitivity and compassion as well as his generosity with his time is amazing. Even now, ten years later, he takes time for my calls and makes time to lunch with my husband.

Don’s professionalism and his personal interest in his clients was so evident to us in our time of tragedy and recovery; Don took care of everything.

Roxanne Howse

“From Canada, I had the unfortunate circumstance of being rear ended on the I-5 while touring Universities for my son. Not knowing anything about law in the USA my husband was trying to research lawyers in Oregon. We ended up contacting Don Corson and I knew from our first conversation that he had a genuine concern and compassion for my well being and that I was going to be in good hands. Through our case, Don was always there to answer any questions I had day or night, I never had to wait to hear back from him. Don was honest and forthcoming and kept us updated as our case progressed. I cannot thank Don and his team enough for all they did for me, he made me feel like family, and I would highly recommend him and his team, I was extremely fortunate to have him in my corner. ” Roxanne Howse from Okotoks, Alberta, Canada

“Thank you so much to Don Corson and his team Stacey, and Wendy! I can’t say enough good things about the law firm and couldn’t hope for a better experience (other than not being hit by a truck!)I was injured in a car accident, discharged with a number of injuries, but then, I had no idea what to do! I didn’t even know to call a lawyer for days, I was so confused at the time. I had memory, speaking, vision, and balance problems as well as impaired decision-making. In addition, I didn’t know the first thing about my own injuries: if rehabilitation was available or effective, how I could pay for any of it, what the legal process was, and, my biggest fear, “would I ever be the same person again?”But from the moment that I spoke with Don and his team, I felt a massive weight lifted off of me and knew I that I was in good hands. They are professional, courteous, respectful, genuinely kind people, and they really cared. All of my questions were answered. Don was diligent about my case and kept me up to date regularly, but my injuries, my recovery, and my physical and emotional health (it takes a toll!) were always as important to Don as was financial compensation. Don is extremely knowledgeable about traumatic brain injury. He also knows what the permanent, and/or long-term effects may be. Such honesty, & empathy are vital for such a personal injury (especially one that other people cannot see.) Don and his team called to make sure I was doing well in-between visits. His expertise allowed me to get the care I needed for each and every problem and while I still have residual effects I’m still working on–the difference between then and now is night and day. Until now, I did not know that one’s choice of a lawyer could affect the quality of one’s life both today and in the future but that was the case! The Corson & Johns Law Firm helped me through a difficult, painful process with professionalism and great compassion and for that, I will be forever grateful.”

“I can’t say enough about Lara Johnson and her team. I felt so supported after my car accident. She was able to ensure that my medical and other related costs would be paid in full, and the team took care of dealing with all the insurance companies so that I didn’t have to. I feel as though this group of attorneys really listens; they understood the extent of my injuries and were able to help sort through all the red tape to ensure that I was able to get the help and care that I needed.”

“I am a past client. Unfortunately someone T-Boned me and caused injuries to myself and totaled my vehicle. My personal attorney recommended Corson and Johnson. I am glad they did! The Corson and Johnson Law Firm is amazing, My entire time working with them felt like I was with family the whole time and they brought me in with open arms! I still talk to some of the staff. They work hard and fight for you whole heartedly! Let’s just say they do their job very well! My car accident was in 2010 and I was only 16 years old and without their help I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today, I couldn’t thank them enough for everything they did for me through the hardest time of my life. I definitely recommend Corson and Johnson Law Firm!

“The Corson & Johnson Law Firm handled my case with professionalism and the all important personal touch — every step of the way. It was priceless to be able to turn over the responsibility for calling medical and insurance providers – they handled everything in such a way that I never stressed about the outcome of my case or monetary issues. I’d highly recommend.”

Alex Har

“Don Corson was kind and professional. He and the office team were all supportive and worked to make my experience as easy and painless as possible. I had zero legal knowledge and had no clue how things worked. Don help me navigate the complexities of the legal system and even went out of his way to help with a college project. Would highly recommend!”

“Corson and Johnson took extremely good care of me. Lara Johnson was my attorney and I do not have enough good things to say about her and her team. I felt heard, supported, and just when I thought there was no hope, there she was. No one knows your pain and that is hard to share sometimes when you’re going through it. She never made me feel judged. She communicated with me just the right amount. She checked in as she needed and I knew that her and her team were working on my case even when they were in contact. Every time I spoke with her,I was impressed. If I could give Corson and Johnson and specifically Lara higher than a 5-star rating, I would. I hope to never have to use an accident attorney again, but if I did I would call Corson and Johnson in a heartbeat. They were phenomenal!”

Deb G.

“Lara Johnson and her team are wonderful. They were on top of my case every moment and explained everything to me step by step. I felt heard and understood. I knew they had my best interest at heart. I couldn’t be more pleased with the result. Thank you. Thank you. “

” I would highly recommend the Corson and Johnson Law Firm. I selected them to represent myself based on a recommendation from a friend. They are very kind, smart, and capable. They communicated the stages of my case to me appropriately and were very gracious in answering any questions I had. I was pleased with the resolution of my case and should I need representation again I will be using this firm.”

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to both Don Corson and Lara Johnson. I greatly appreciate the respect and care afforded me following a serious auto accident in July 2007. From the very beginning, I was impressed with the firm’s personal attention and commitment to integrity. Don drove all the way to Portland to meet with me – on a Saturday no less. I was immediately taken with his depth of care, knowledge, and practical advice. I soon met and continued to work with Lara Johnson. Lara combined her keen mind and expertise with affirming conversation, guidance, and personal compassion. She is quick, smart, and responsive; she handled my case with the utmost integrity and grace. Lara has the ability to cut through the red tape often encountered, and was appreciatively frank and proactive. Lara has my highest recommendation not only because she is so good at what she does in her work, but because she adds a very human touch to what can be complex and frustrating matters. My experience with Lara and Don was especially meaningful for me because it is not often in a business relationship that one feels truly cared about on a personal level. The world needs more attorneys like Lara and Don – they embody everything the legal profession strives to be.”

“Corson and Johnson exceeded my expectations of a personal injury lawyer. Lara was very thorough throughout the case and successfully worked towards a fair settlement.”

“Don Corson and his team of incredible people (Wendy and Stacy particularly) worked so hard over the last two years on my case. Their detail orientated and careful attention to all documentation made my case much stronger ! Don was a God Sent! He really was more than an attorney, more like a close caring friend and for that I am so grateful. My particular case involved a drunk driver and I wasn’t sure how things would fair just as I read so many statistics about Oregon being the lowest pay out state for car accidents etc. Don made sure my case was paid special attention to and delivered a fantastic review of what occurred during my accident and after. I’m so happy Don was my attorney and highly recommend anyone in the Eugene area seeking a GRADE A strong attorney and staff to look no further than Corson and Johnson law firm !! “

Denise Steele

“Not very many people can say that they love their lawyer, but I can! I am very thankful I found Don, and that he took my case. Don is a remarkably cheerful, positive, warm person, whose optimism buoyed my spirits during tough times. I really felt Don was in my corner fighting for me; and that although he was kind to me personally, I discovered that he is a very smart and strong opponent legally. Don is a remarkable combination of integrity, strength and smart with a compassionate heart. I could not have been more fortunate to have found Don; he earned my trust, respect, and appreciation. I wholeheartedly recommend Don Corson and his staff to you as an advocate.”

“I was referred to Don after I was injured in an accident. Don explained his process and made me feel like I knew what to expect. I was treated like a friend by his entire team and would definitely recommend them to anyone who needs a great injury attorney.”

“Lara Johnson and her staff were wonderful to work with!!! You can clearly see that she honestly cares about her clients! Her compassion and understanding made a world of difference for my son, who was her actual client, after being hit by a drunk driver. She has a vast knowledge of the types of injuries, both the temporary and permanent, and how they will likely affect the rest of his life. Of course, as with any attorney, this is a job and it is also about making money.

However, she also wanted to make sure he received the largest amount possible due to the fact that even after almost 2 years of various treatments, he has permanent injuries that will greatly affect the rest of his life. Not only did she get him the settlement, they got him a Lump Sum to begin with, as he still needs a lot of dental work done and wanted to get a few things, but set the rest up in an annuity. He was super happy knowing she was looking after future.

Especially since he is a 19 year old kid who could easily blow through a lot of money, and is concerned that people may try to take advantage of him knowing he has a brain injury that greatly affects his memory and decision making. Not only is it very obvious she truly does cares and showed a great deal of compassion, he is actually sad that he won’t need to see her anymore. He said he is going to miss her, and everyone else there at the office.

Unfortunately, under very unfortunate and heartbreaking circumstances, I recommended her to a very close family friend. I know she will do everything she can to help his family, especially under such tragic circumstances, and show every bit of compassion she showed to my son. So, not only have I already, I will recommend her to anyone I know who finds themselves in the need of her services. We were recommended to Lara to begin with, and I would call her immediately should any of us have anything like this every happen to our family. I greatly recommend her to anyone who may find themselves in similar circumstances!!! Without a doubt! 100%!!!!”

Philip L.

“I was extremely pleased with the work they did for me with my personal injury suit. The results were better than expected. I was always kept “in the loop.” If you need a compassionate, hard working law firm to help you with your legal needs, look no further.”

Dick & Sue B.

“We could not have asked for better treatment especially under the horrible circumstances that we needed them when our daughter. Single parent of 4, was killed in a horrific head on collision with a tow truck. Thank you Don for truly caring about the outcome for our grandchildren. We thank you, Dick and Sue Bennink”

“Lara Johnson is very warm hearten and professional. I got both quality and efficient results as well as fast and friendly service. I would be a client again if ever needed. I would recommend her to anyone.”

” I hired Lara after an auto accident in which I suffered a traumatic brain injury, neck and spine injuries, shoulder and clavicle injury, and a leg being knocked out of alignment. I had been told by one lawyer, with another firm in town, that my case wasn’t worth much…no broken bones, no blood…and not to expect much compensation in the state of Oregon. I then spoke to Lara and asked if she’d be able, with her fee, to get me a higher settlement than if I negotiated with the insurance company on my own. Lara’s answer, “Absolutely!” There was no hesitation; direct, resounding, confident. Much different than the first lawyer I spoke to and I knew “absolutely” that Lara Johnson was who I wanted representing me. Lara further impressed me with how thoroughly she handled my case. Within a week, Lara had sent out rep letters to the hospital ER, physical therapists, massage therapists, doctors and police requesting records relating to the accident. She even went to the scene of the accident to take photographs of the location. Additionally, Lara had me complete a questionnaire, which not only covered my medical history, but my educational and personal accomplishments, as well. She looked at my case from all angles. She was able to represent me because she spent the time to find out who she was representing. Lara responded quickly to my calls and e-mails and updated me monthly on the status of my year-long case. Thankfully, I didn’t represent myself. Lara settled my case for the full amount of the insured’s policy…You really, literally, can’t do any better than that!!!”

Candy C.

“Four years ago I was badly injured in a car wreck caused by a very drunk underage driver. Because of multiple surgeries, I spent an entire year unable to care for myself, first at a hospital, then at a rehabilitation facility, and later at a foster home. The outcome didn’t look favorable for me but Don Corson and his firm never gave up. They went after the drunk driver and the party responsible for providing the alcohol to a minor. They were able to recover all of the funds available. The combination of that recovery and negotiating reimbursement obligations managed to secure a sizable settlement for me. Don Corson is not only an unusually capable attorney, he’s a very nice person who truly cared about my future. I’m so fortunate to have had Don in my corner.”

Shelly F.

“The Corson & Johnson Law Firm represented my minor son and I after being involved in a motor vehicle accident. Having never been in a situation where I needed a lawyer, I was quite nervous. From my very first phone call through the entire case Lara, Don and their staff made me feel completely comfortable. They treated my case as if it were the most important one they had (I am sure it wasn’t)– always making sure that my son and I were okay through the whole process. They kept me updated and informed about my case and were thorough with answering all of my questions. The entire legal team was highly professional, accommodating, compassionate, considerate and kind…just really good people. I have no hesitation in giving The Corson & Johnson Law Firm my highest recommendation.”

Susan Dunn

“I had an awesome experience with Don Corson in my case, which is an odd thing to say as I would not wish a lawsuit on anyone. I was terribly injured (multiple head and facial fractures) when my seat belt failed to work properly in a medium speed collision. My daughter was 14 months old at the time. Fortunately, a local attorney in St. Helens recommended a Eugene firm in which Don worked. I really enjoyed working with Don. He was aware of the emotional side of head injuries and litigation and helped me feel prepared. He also insulated me from worrying about all the strategic decisions and the ups and downs of litigation. He spoke to me in terms I could understand. I continue to feel support from Don and his firm as if they were my extended family.”
