Today is National Voter Registration Day!

Voting is fundamental to making democracy work. One of Don Corson's teenage memories is going door to door to help register voters. The process is much easier now here in Oregon, where we have online voter registration.

Make your voice heard and make your vote count. If you’re not registered to vote, it’s time to get signed up. You can register to vote in Oregon online here: ecs.page.link/LjHtQ

It’s Child Passenger Safety Week!

Between September 18th and the 24th, we’re putting a focus on protecting child passengers.

Car crashes are a leading cause of preventable deaths for children. Many motor vehicle related injuries and deaths can be prevented through the proper use of car seats and seat belts, and of course through following the rules of the road.

It’s Constitution Day!

Today marks the day the United States Constitution was signed in 1787. The Constitution starts with the words, "We the People." It was designed to create a democratic republic that was to serve its citizens, then an almost revolutionary concept, and today an ideal that is not to be taken for granted. The Constitution recognizes that a government with separation of powers, checks and balances, and the rule of law is key to preserving fundamental rights and liberties. All of us should do our best to uphold those ideals.

Today is International Day of Democracy!

Recognizing this day gives us the opportunity to celebrate and appreciate our democratic society and the advantages it allows us to have. In most times and places, people have lived under monarchs, warlords, and strongmen. While democracy can be messy, we are fortunate to live in a place where our voices are heard and we get to have a say in public decisions.

That’s worth celebrating!

21 years ago today, on September 11th, terrorists flew planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and would have hit either the Capital or the White House had not brave Americans stopped that fourth attack.

Nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives on the day. In the aftermath, Americans came together in unity.

Today, we honor and remember the many men and women who lost their lives that day. You all are dearly missed. 💙
