Hours of Service For Truck Drivers

service hours for truck drivers

This segment of The Law and You features personal injury trial lawyer Don Corson speaking about trucking safety issues and an Oregon news and information resource–UnsafeTrucksOregon.com.

JOEL: This is Joel Block for The Law and You with Eugene attorney Don Corson. Don, there appears to be another push to weaken the safety regulations for 18-wheelers and large trucks.

DON: Joel, truck drivers are caught in a system that sometimes forces them to choose between following safety laws or making impossible delivery deadlines. Truck driver fatigue affects the safety of everyone on the highways. Yet, some trucking companies want to increase the number of hours drivers can drive to more than 15 hours a day so they can increase their earnings. The general public and truck drivers can register their opinions on these issues through a link on UnsafeTrucksOregon.com.

JOEL: Thank you, Don. New national safety rules went into affect October 28, 2011.
