JOEL: This is Joel Block for The Law and You with Eugene attorney Don Corson. Don, I understand that one area your firm works on is safety for children.
DON: Joel, there are many unsafe products that affect children, from lead-tainted toys to choking hazards. However, power equipment used by adults also can be a great danger. For example, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, 16,000 children are injured each year by lawnmowers. Even when used normally, riding lawn mowers cause more amputation injuries to young children than any other equipment. A small and inexpensive control change to riding lawn mowers would spare many children. Yet, some manufacturers are unwilling to make the change and seem to be putting profits over safety.
JOEL: Thanks, Don. For more information about how you can help create a Safer Oregon for Children, visit the Law Firm of Corson & Johnson at CorsonJohnsonLaw.com. The Law and You is a community service and does not replace the advice of an attorney.
